How the number is made
The arithmetic, in the open
Base days times five multipliers, rounded to the nearest half day. Nothing hidden. A full ISO 9001 implementation for 60 people on one site with a partial system comes out at 14 × 1.3 = 18.2, which we show as 18. The same job at a medical device maker with nothing written moves to 14 × 1.3 × 1.25 × 1.4 = 31.85, shown as 32.
The multipliers come from where time actually goes on our jobs. Headcount matters less than people expect, because twelve operators on the same cell share one work instruction. Sites matter more, because each one has its own document control habits and its own drawer of uncontrolled copies. A lapsed certificate is cheaper than a blank page. The records exist, they just stopped.
Consulting days are not elapsed time. Eighteen days spread over five months is normal for implementation, because your people need weeks between our visits to run the new procedures and generate records. Nobody can compress that part.
Why the tool warns you about dates
A certification body auditor at stage 2 samples records. If there are no records, there is nothing to sample.
Full implementation needs at least three months of records before stage 2. One internal audit cycle complete, one management review held, corrective actions opened and some of them closed. Pick "under 3 months" with full implementation and the result panel says so in red. That is not us being cautious. It is what the certification body will find.
Audit readiness under three months is often fine, provided the system has been running. Gap assessment has no date constraint at all: two days on site, a ledger in your inbox within a week.
What the estimate leaves out
Travel outside the Seattle area, translation of documents, 27001 technical controls work such as configuring systems, and anything your certification body charges. For 27001 we support the documentation only. We do not do penetration testing or configure your cloud tenancy.
